Out of 8 billion population, over 1 billion people live with some form of disability worldwide and the number is increasing fast
To improve access to high quality, affordable assistive products in all countries, World Health Organization (WHO) has introduced the Priority Assistive Products List (APL). The APL is the first stage of implementing a global commitment to improving access to assistive products – the Global Cooperation on Assistive Technology (GATE)
The unavailability of a dedicated platform for assistive technologies and devices creates significant challenges for both users and innovators. It limits access to critical information, making it harder for individuals with disabilities to discover suitable solutions that enhance their independence and quality of life.
Innovators and manufacturers face barriers in showcasing their advancements and connecting with end-users and stakeholders, slowing the adoption of new technologies. Additionally, the absence of a unified platform hinders collaboration among researchers, healthcare professionals, and policymakers, delaying progress in addressing diverse accessibility needs. This gap ultimately exacerbates social and economic inequalities, leaving many underserved.
